Our songs

A Sun Is Born

Sooner or later, many of the well-known artists have done it. They have released a Christmas song. Usually after many releases and many years in the business.Although we already had a few songs together, in mid-November we thought, why don’t we start with a “Christmas song” to present our project “The Brothers Of The Bloody Catfish”?

Nobody would have expected that, also because our desired style was not supposed going to be in that direction. The dark season really motivated us and of course it should be a bit dark. While Brother Bloody composed the song with the typical elements of a Christmas song and yes, in addition to many orchestral instruments, the song also features the 4-string CBG and the 2 string cigar box bass, Brother Catfish set about writing the lyrics. The topic was not to sing about the Christian holidays.

It is about the winter solstice, so it was of course very obvious to man the boat with the Vikings.

A Sun Is Born

The darkest night has gone,

birthday of the sun.

gathering around the tree,

we pay the holy fee.

sweet and silent night,

we prepare to fight.

A warriors soul does not beg for divine forgiveness,

with the sword in his hand he’s just doing his business.

We follow the stars which will show us the way,

we fight with our guts for glory

and when we fall sing songs and tell our story.

The darkest night has gone,

the drums play until dawn.

We will meet the priest,

sacrifices for the feast.

When Crew and sails are blessed,

it’s time to fill war’s chest.

we arrive on the shore and we land with a roar,

the blades tight in our hands,

the last stand falls all in the name of Thor.

We track down their king and he gives us his ring,

on knees he seals surrender,

and we enjoy the sound of the lamenter.

We follow the stars which will show us the way,

we fight with our guts for glory,

and when we fall sing songs and tell our story.

We follow the stars which will show us the way,

we fight with our guts for glory,

and when we fall sing songs and tell our story.

Brothers of the Bloody Catfish ” A SUN IS BORN”
The clip:

Advent was rather rainy, but in Mossautaul in the Odenwald, Brother Catfish’s daughter Shana found a suitable place on one of her rides where we could film. And there was even a little snow. The props were collected and built: an axe, a deer skin, the Viking shield and of course the “gift table” which is a must at the festival.
On the morning of the shoot, I got a fresh trout from the local fishermen. But it had to be hung on the tree because we had an uninvited guest during the shoot.
The neighbor’s cat wanted to know what was going on in its territory and paid us a visit.
Hoping for a fish dish, the furry friend would not be put off.
She was constantly sneaking around the gift table; a warm place on the deer skin was not to be sniffed at in the cool temperatures.
If only there weren’t all these annoying things lying around everywhere. OK, cat videos are really cool, but unfortunately we couldn’t use this actor for this clip, we’ll do that another time.
The cat was then distracted from constantly destroying the set with caresses and Oli Wörner was able to capture the atmospheric images with his camera.

In addition to Shana on her horse Epona, there was also the role of the priest, which was taken on by New Yorker Jon Seidmann, a digital artist and creator, who has lived in Eberbach for several years.
Thank you all for being there on this fresh winter morning.

We were pretty happy that we managed to publish our first song on YouTube in time on the day of the winter solstice.

By the way, the song is also very good to listen to outside of the Christmas season.

Hoodoo Man

With the second song we are now approaching the musical direction of the Brothers. We want to describe our style as Dark CBG Rock.
The CBG stands for the Cigar Box Guitar, or the Cigarbox Bass, our two main instruments. We build them ourselves, a cigar box serves as the body, we make the necks from maple or ash, the selection of pickups ensures the unique sound of our instruments. Brother Bloody equips his CBGs with 4 strings each, while Brother Catfish plucks two strings on his Cohibass.

The CBG has its origins in the southern states of the USA, where it served as an easy-to-build string instrument for the poor farm worker and musicians, which laid the foundation for the blues. This instrument is often found in many blues and blues rock ensembles, but we don’t want to limit ourselves to a limited musical style with our instruments and try to exploit everything that seems possible to us. Because the brothers live in different worlds. Music, comics, film, all of these are an integral part of our lives. No topic is too bad for us. From westerns, science fiction, action, horror, to old Japanese films, our songs and clips should take you into our world.

Stay tuned, there’s a lot to come. But sometimes it’s our own experiences that have to be sung about. Brother Catfish spent part of his years on a traditional Carpenter’s Waltz traveling through the South of the US.
“As a big Southern Rock fan, I naturally had to travel to the places where my favorite bands originated. I traveled south via New York. One stop was in Savannah, Georgia. In the old district of the old port city, I spotted a voodoo shop and wanted to look around for a souvenir in the form of a doll. I then found what I was looking for.I found a voodoo doll that was printed with the events that occur when you stick a needle into it. The traditional uniform of traveling carpenter then caught the owner’s attention and asked me what I was looking for. I explained to him that I wanted to buy a doll. “Alright,  I’ll make you a real one,” he said and led me into the basement of the old brick building. It was a different story down there, I don’t want to know what kind of rituals have taken place there.
He told me that he would make me the doll, but that it would take a while. I said that I was just passing through and I didn’t know if I would come back again. He said that’s okay, I’ll find you.
Well, I arrived in Atlanta, where I made my first long stop and earned my living there.
Of course I also had to go to Macon, the hometown of the Allman Brothers and many other great Southern Rock bands. There I met Jason, an American Native who was the same age as me. He had a small construction company. We became friends and worked together on various projects.
On weekends we drove into the surrounding area, to concerts and also to a Rattlesnake Roundup, a folk festival that is all about rattlesnakes. We had just arrived and were on our way into the crowd when a black Cadillac drove up to us and stopped right next to me. The window rolled down, the Hoodooman was sitting in the car and handed me the doll. I really didn’t expect that. Sure, the clothes I was wearing meant I wasn’t exactly inconspicuous, but it was a few miles from Savannah to here.
A week later we celebrated Friday night in a bar in Macon. After a few games of pool and a few beers we set off home on foot. But we were probably in the wrong area, because with a gun pointed at our heads our belongings changed hands. It all happened very quickly, we fled behind a house, the owners called the cops, who were immediately at the scene. After we had given our statements, the sheriff drove us home.
When we got there, we had another drink to get over the shock. Then Jason came up with the idea of using the voodoo doll. That was the third time this year that he had been robbed and kept losing important documents. He crouched down in his Indian corner, took the two dolls, looked on one of them where the dots for heart attack and go to jail were and put the corresponding needles in the original.
The next morning, the sheriff was at the door again and reported that they had been able to arrest that guy that night, at the same time that Jason had stuck the needles into the doll !
We had to go to the county jail, where we identified the perpetrator during a line-up, and a week later the trial was already underway. There were a few other crimes on top of that, and the sentence was 40 years in jail!
It could well be that the crook is still in prison. A true story, don’t mess with hoodoo, crime does not pay!

And watch out! We’ve hidden a little message in the video clip On YouTube Have fun finding it.And please, feel feel to subscribe to our channel and feel free to like and leave a comment. That help us a lot to continue our journey

The Hoodoo Man

Dressed in my good suit, put my hat on, come on let it shine.

Some Southern Tunes, cold beer hot ladies and some sips of Moonshine

I know that you are watching me while hiding in the dark

you try to figure out the way to mug me later in the park

You took my money with the gun, while I was walking through your hood.

I gave you all that what was left; I should have stay in the wood

Now soon you will find out what I have learned on my waltz

Instead of wrestling stabbing shooting I learned how to play with dolls.

The Hoodoman from Okefenokee

His fists don`t miss, though he cannot see

A puppet and a magic spell

Enough to send you for years in a cell

That big blind voodoo man from downtown Sav`nah Georgia

A deep voice with cold eyes asked me what can I do for ya.

I am too handsome for a fistfight; I have no gun or knife

So please just tell me what`s the best way to protect my life.

He told me if your hands can`t hit because you cannot see

Be deadly as a copperhead and sting him like a bee

All that I need to make a puppet is the gender and the skin

And in the swamps I make the doll, which will be ready to pin.

The Hoodoman from Okefenokee

His fists don`t miss, though he cannot see

A puppet and a magic spell

Enough to send you for years in a cell

The first stitch`s going through the legs, the second s going through your brain

Another needle in the heart will caus`em  plenty of pain

So robbing me at gunpoint that night was your biggest fail

My little needle beat your gun and brought you into jail

The Hoodoman from Okefenokee

His fists don`t miss, though he cannot see

A puppet and a magic spell

Enough to send you for years into hell.

Swiss Samurai Sauce

The Brothers Of The Bloody Catfish present their third and heaviest song so far. Hard riffs and solo played by Brother Bloody on the cigar box guitar, dark and earthy vocals by Brother Catfish, as well as the driving drums of Brother Stéph create an anthem for the Swiss Daniel Eich.

Daniel is a talented and successful judoka, multiple Swiss champion and bronze medalist at the European Championships. Now he is on his way to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Daniel is the nephew of Brother Catfish, so the Brothers Of The Bloody Catfish, who had long been thinking about a song about samurai, decided to put him at the center of the song. Compared to other martial arts, judo is rather quiet, the fighters usually don’t play a song when they enter the arena.

Maybe that will change with this song. Experience a song with a mix of Japan and Switzerland, a mixture of unarmed toughness, discipline and success after years of training with the spicy taste of a samurai sauce, the Swiss Samurai Sauce.

Swiss Samurai Sauce

After the bow, don’t be too slow

get your focus on the show

He is the hammer, you are the nail

Make one mistake and you will fail

swift as the wind, strong as an oak ,

his presence is the reason why fear is evoke

Banzai Banzai

Showdown with the Swiss samurai

when you hear this battlecry,

you are faster on the ground than an arrow can fly.

No blade to wield, no amour for a shield.

he knows every strike, more functional than a Swiss Army knife.

With every throw, with every hold,

command respect , story unfolds

Theres one on top, there’s one below

depends who is the fastest with the first throw.

Untamed and strong, ready to strike

he is the unarmed Samurai

Banzai Banzai

Showdown with the Swiss samurai

when you hear this battlecry,

you are faster on the ground than an arrow can fly.

No blade to wield, no amour for a shield.

he knows every strike, more functional than a Swiss Army knife.

(The clip is coming sooooooon……..)

The clip:

For this clip we wanted to build miniatures for the first time and incorporate them into the filming.
We have to produce our clips on a low budget, but we still don’t want to miss out on taking you to the scenery that we describe in our songs.
For the Japanese world, Brother Bloody took several weeks to create a diorama with an impressive Japanese temple.
Even if you only see a few minutes or even a few seconds of the final product, we still enjoy working on such small things, and the whole project keeps giving rise to new creative ideas.

The outdoor shots were filmed in Switzerland near Lucerne, and the band recordings took place at Brother Bloody’s home.
Everything went well when we were filming in Switzerland. On the one hand, Daniel is constantly at various competitions and training camps in other European countries and is very rarely at home. But after weeks of rain, we caught a perfect spring day, which showed off the Swiss landscape to its best advantage.
The casting there also stayed in the family. For further scenes, we were able to get Daniel’s two siblings, Simon and Tamara, who also found the time to deliver a great job. Everyone was very focused, and despite the short time we had available for filming, there were still a few great scenes.

Producing a music video doesn’t always have to involve huge financial resources. You can find the right props in all sorts of places, sometimes you have to make and build them yourself. But that’s also what makes us passionate. We build our instruments ourselves, our songs are handmade and we also like to lend a hand for our videos. Immerse yourself by watching with us in the world of the Brothers Of The Bloody Catfish. To help us to produce more, please feel free to subscribe to our Channel on YouTube, feel free to like and leave a comment. That will help us a lot.Thank you.
